What Our Skin Says About Our Health

Episode 98 | 25 July 2023

On this episode of the Alix Turoff Nutrition podcast, Alix sits down with Dr. Adam Swigost, MD.

Dr. Swigost is a Board-Certified Dermatologist and Fellow in the American Academy of Dermatology. He practices medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology in Atlanta, GA. Originally from North Dakota, he completed his BA, BS, and MD at the University of North Dakota. He then completed a comprehensive medical internship at the University of Central Florida and his dermatology residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.

Dr. Swigost’s philosophy focuses on the connection between our skin and broader health. Skin conditions can often be manifestations of other medical conditions; additionally, the appearance of our skin has a profound impact on our behavioral and mental health. Dr. Swigost loves partnering with his patients, and there is nothing more satisfying than helping people to unlock their inner confidence through healthier skin.

Some of the topics we covered in this episode include:

  • Nutrition as it relates to skin disease (acne, psoriasis, eczema, etc)

  • How are things like gluten and dairy connected to the appearance of our skin?

  • How water impacts our skin

  • What’s the deal with sunscreen?

  • Collagen supplements for skin health and appearance

  • Supplements that can help our skin

  • Treatments and lasers for skin’s appearance

  • Cellulite and how to get rid of it.
